Mossberg 500 Tactical Persuader
All,
I only own a handgun (G-19) at the present time, but am looking to get a good self defense shotgun. I think I have pretty much settled on a 12 Gauge Mossberg 500 Tactical Persuader shotgun. My local gun shop sells it for $599 I believe. I'm not necessarily worried about spending an extra $50 on the gun there if their prices are a little high. That said, I have watched some Youtube videos where people are claiming they were purchased for $400-$450. Has there been a recent price spike in shotguns, or is my local gun shop just extremely expensive? Also, I would take any other suggestions you all might have regarding a good quality defense shotgun. Thanks! |

I also found the same model online at Impact Guns, and their price was $797.99, I was shocked (http://www.impactguns.com/store/015813524407.html). The $599 price quoted to me by my local gunshop obviously seemed cheap by comparison. However, like you, I was under the impression that they were in the $400 range at most. I guess I'm just hoping I'm missing something here that someone can point out to me. |
Re: Mossberg 500 Tactical Persuader
I would look for a used gun as most people will not shoot enough rounds through a shotgun to wear it out.
As an alternative, I highly recommend picking up a used 870 Wingmaster for $300 and buying an eighteen-inch or twenty-inch barrel for $100. That way you get two shotgun, a sporting gun and a HD gun, for the price of one. Use the remaining money to buy some shells and start practicing. |
Re: Mossberg 500 Tactical Persuader
For $599 you should look into the 930 SPX...it's a poor mans Benelli M4

Re: Mossberg 500 Tactical Persuader
As another mentioned, that seems really high. Ive had mossberg shotguns, but i tend to like the Remington 870 a little better. Just personal preference. Just seems a bit smoother. A scatter gun id really like to have if I could justify the $$$ is one of the new FN SLP
http://www.fnhusa.com/le/products/fi...005&gid=FNG002 but they seem to run well over $800 last I checked. For a little over $300 I can get a new Rem 870 tactical. Here is one for $357, but ive seen them on sale at various places for as low as $305 http://www.impactguns.com/store/047700250779.html |
Re: Mossberg 500 Tactical Persuader
I agree that the 870 is easily in the price range and probably a better gun. There are tons of 870s out there and tons of aftermarket parts, barrels, etc. You should be able to pick up a used hunting one and add an 18" barrel and still come out under the price of that Mossberg.

Re: Mossberg 500 Tactical Persuader
My 870 hunting rifle does not look cool, but it works. I spent about $150 on a surefire light which if things go bump in the night is worth it weight in gold (pun intended)

Re: Mossberg 500 Tactical Persuader
I can't make up my mind now. My brother in law has me looking at a Benelli Nova, tells me that is his best shotgun by far (pump action), and the man has like 12 of them.
I would really like to spend $1,800 and get me a camo Benelli M4, but I think that would be a little overkill :) http://i172.photobucket.com/albums/w...en_m4_camo.jpg |
Re: Mossberg 500 Tactical Persuader
I opted for the 18.5" Mossberg 500 "Mariner" and added a new Knoxx blackhawk recoil reducing stock for $75 from a classified forum.
http://i582.photobucket.com/albums/s...mon/ppk005.jpg All in all,I'm quite happy w/ the rust resistant mossy HD gun w/aftermarket stock for under $500. I consider the mossy good value but sounds like you might need to shop around for a better price. |
Re: Mossberg 500 Tactical Persuader
$599 sounds crazy high.
I've seen a Mossberg 500 on sale at Big 5 Sporting goods for around $269-289 that looked identical to the one you linked at impactguns. Right now, they've got a Mossberg 590 on sale for $379 and a Benelli Nova for $399 http://big5sportinggoods.shoplocal.c...35267&offerid= http://big5sportinggoods.shoplocal.c...ailerid=-98565 Your location say's you're in Texas... Big 5 has some stores there. |

Re: Mossberg 500 Tactical Persuader
599 is An insane price.
Nothing made by Mossberg is worth that. Look a round a bit, you could buy 2 good shotguns for that price. Must be some gun shops or a pawn shop nearby, you can probably find a decent Remington 870 for 250 or so. The Maverick 88 is made by mossberg, assembled in mexico, they can be found brand new for 200 dollars plus tax. Not a bad 12 gauge, good little trunk gun. I'd pay a little more for a well used 870 Remington, make the barrel 18 and a quarter inches long, pay 30 bucks for a nice Hogue pistol grip, and rubberized forend , 29 inches overall, 4 pounds of " Get off my Lawn", , at yer service. |
Re: Mossberg 500 Tactical Persuader
I paid 350 for mine about 6-9 months ago. Anyway, I saw that shotgun @ Dick's for 360 a couple of weeks ago.

Re: Mossberg 500 Tactical Persuader
